Interview with Bertrand Dattas

A look back at Bertrand Dattas’ career and passions, a company manager in an IT company specialising in CRM (customer relationship management) solutions for finance-related companies.

 

1/ WHAT IS YOUR CAREER PATH BERTRAND DATTAS?

 

I did all my studies in Paris. Since I was a child, I had always been interested in computing and I knew that I wanted to pursue a career in this field. So I headed directly to a scientific baccalaurate. Once I graduated high school, I enrolled in a computer engineering school: EPITA in Paris. In parallel with this training, I also obtained a Master’s degree in Economics & Business at Sciences Po Paris with the future aim of setting up my own company.

 

My professional career is therefore divided into two parts. I first worked as an information systems engineer before setting up my own company specialising in CRM (Customer Relationship Management) solutions for finance-related companies.

 

 

2/ WHAT DOES THE JOB OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS ENGINEER CONSIST OF?

 

It should be noted that an information systems engineer works within a team in charge of IT development and project management. His role is to optimize information systems by providing new applications that he develops himself. Of course, it is also important to test them beforehand and to update them regularly.

 

He can also work on interface projects between the different computer systems of an organization. He is also the one called in case of emergency if the system encounters any problems. He must therefore manage any malfunctions and is in charge of maintenance.

 

Finally, it is important to keep an eye out for new hardware and software innovations.

 

 

3/ WHAT SKILLS ARE REQUIRED TO BECOME AN EXPERIENCED COMPUTER SCIENTIST?

 

First of all, I would say that you have to be interested in the digital world and technological advances. Indeed, he must be particularly familiar with the various existing equipments and the latest innovations. Then, he must be proactive because he positions himself as closely as possible to the company’s strategy and must therefore identify its needs. Finally, because it is subject to staggered or on-call schedules, a computer scientist must be available.

 

Of course, as in many other professions, the information systems engineer must also be rigorous and methodical to carry out complex projects and must have good interpersonal skills to lead teams.

 

 

4/ HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE IDEA OF STARTING YOUR OWN BUSINESS?

 

Since high school, I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit and I have always had the idea of starting my own company in the field of IT. Things accelerated when I entered university to become an engineer. While studying information systems and management software development, I realized that companies, especially those specialized in finance, were very demanding in CRM (customer relationship management softwares).

 

After a few years as an information systems engineer, I decided it was time to realize my dream of starting my own project. I then assembled a small team of talented people and we started our adventure in the world of CRM software. Now, after a few years of hard work, we are more than twenty and our client portfolio is international.

 

 

5/ CAN YOU EXPLAIN TO US WHICH SERVICES OFFER YOUR COMPANY Mr. Dattas?

 

Our main product is a CRM software specially designed to meet the specific needs of financial companies (banks, insurance companies, etc.). It allows the management of contacts, tasks, folders, reports, data sharing and a link to the company’s website.

 

To support our main offer, we provide, of course, assistance, data protection and confidentiality as well as data backup and restoration. Finally, we also offer an online demonstration so that our customers can get an idea before they buy our solution.

 

 

6/ CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR MOST SIGNIFICANT PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE?

 

It took place very recently. With the expansion of our company, we have had several customer requests in foreign countries, including a large Chinese financial group. Very demanding, the client wanted me to visit them directly in China. So I had to move to this country for a while to try to show them the qualities of our service.

 

This experience was very enriching, especially in terms of culture. It was my first trip in China and I had the opportunity to discover a whole different culture, unlike ours. As well, the business world is not codified the same way, consequently I had to comply with it.
